I run Markamo. We handle organic social media and paid ads for businesses across Dubai, and every week a business owner asks me a version of the same question: how do I choose a social media agency here, and how do I not get burned?

This guide is the honest answer. Not a pitch. Not a list of vague tips. A practical walkthrough of what to check, what to ask, what to watch out for, and what things should actually cost in Dubai in 2026.

If you are already looking at agencies and want to compare them properly, the checklist table near the end of this post will save you a lot of time.

Why choosing a social media agency in Dubai is harder than it should be

The UAE has 99 percent social media penetration. Almost every adult in the country is on at least one platform. Instagram is where purchase decisions happen across retail, healthcare, food and beverage, real estate, and services. That level of audience density means the market is full of agencies offering social media management, and quality varies enormously.

A lot of what gets called a social media agency is really a content shop: they film, design, write captions, and post. That is a real service, but it is only half the job if you want social media to generate revenue rather than just build a following. Running paid ads on Meta or TikTok is a separate skill that requires technical setup, audience building, and ongoing optimisation. Many agencies in Dubai do not do both well, and they will not tell you that upfront.

The other complication is account ownership, which I cover in detail below. It is the single issue I see cause the most pain for business owners who switch agencies.

The first decision: organic, paid, or both

Before you evaluate any agency, get clear on what you actually need.

Organic social media means building and posting content to your Instagram, LinkedIn, or TikTok without paying to distribute it. It builds credibility, supports SEO, and keeps your brand visible to people who already follow you or find you through hashtags and search. Results come slowly but compound over time.

Paid social media means putting ad budget behind campaigns on Meta, TikTok, or Snapchat to reach people who do not follow you yet. You can target by location, age, interest, job title, or lookalike audience. Results are faster and more measurable, but they stop the moment you stop spending.

Most growing businesses in Dubai need both, and they work better together. Organic content gives you credibility when paid ads send people to your profile. Paid campaigns give you reach that organic alone cannot produce in a competitive market.

The problem is that agencies in Dubai tend to specialise in one or the other. A content-first agency will emphasise how many posts per week they produce and how beautiful the feed looks. A performance agency will focus on CPL and ROAS and put less effort into organic aesthetics. If you need both, ask directly whether they run their own paid campaigns internally or outsource media buying to a third party.

For reference, Markamo does both in-house. Our social media service covers organic content management and paid ads under one flat fee.

Account ownership: the question most people forget to ask

This is non-negotiable. Before you sign anything with a social media agency, ask these exact questions:

  • Who will own my Instagram and Facebook pages?
  • Will my ad account be set up inside my own Business Manager?
  • Will my payment method be on the ad account, or yours?
  • What happens to my accounts, ad history, and audiences if I leave?

The correct answers: you own everything. The agency gets admin access, not ownership.

Why does this matter so much? Because your Meta ad account holds your pixel data, your custom audiences, your lookalike audiences, your conversion history, and your creative performance data. If an agency builds all of that inside their own Business Manager and you leave, you lose it all. You start from zero with the next agency. The new agency cannot see what worked, what your cost per lead was, or which audiences converted. That costs you months of re-learning and real money in wasted ad spend.

A well-run agency will set up your Business Manager from day one, add your payment method to the ad account, and give themselves manager-level access. If they push back on this, that tells you something important about how they plan to retain clients.

Who actually does the work

Dubai has a lot of agencies where the salesperson who sells you the retainer is not the person doing your content. That is fine if the team behind them is good, but you should know who you are actually getting.

Ask for the name and background of your account manager. Ask how many accounts they manage. Ask whether your content will be created by an in-house team or outsourced to a freelancer network. Ask whether the person building your ad campaigns has Meta Blueprint certification or equivalent experience.

A small founder-led agency where you have a direct line to whoever is running your account is often a better arrangement for an SME than a large agency where you are account number 40 managed by a junior coordinator. At Markamo, every account is handled by me or someone I directly oversee. That is a deliberate choice.

Choosing a social media agency in Dubai comes down to who does the work, who owns the accounts, and how they measure results.

What social media agency fees should look like in Dubai

Here is a realistic breakdown of what things cost in 2026.

Organic social media management only (content creation, scheduling, basic community management) generally ranges from AED 2,500 to AED 6,000 per month for an SME. That range depends on how many platforms you are on, post frequency, and whether video production is included.

Full-service management combining organic and paid social (content plus Meta ad campaign management) generally runs AED 5,000 to AED 15,000 per month in agency fees. That is separate from your actual ad budget, which you pay directly to Meta or TikTok.

Be careful with percentage-of-spend pricing models. If an agency charges 15 to 20 percent of your monthly ad spend as their fee, their income grows as you spend more, regardless of whether performance improves. Flat-fee models align incentives better. At Markamo, organic social media management starts from AED 3,000 per month, and paid ads management is a separate plan from AED 2,950 per month, both with no long-term lock-in.

Social CPC (cost per click) in the UAE on Meta ranges from roughly AED 9 at the lower end to AED 184 in highly competitive industries like real estate or financial services. Most service businesses pay somewhere between AED 10 and AED 40 per click. Knowing that range helps you sanity-check whether an agency's projected cost per lead is realistic for your budget.

The comparison checklist

Use this when you are evaluating two or more agencies side by side.

What to check Good sign Red flag
Account ownership They set up your Business Manager, you own all pages and ad accounts They put your pages or ad account inside their own Business Manager
Who does the work Named account manager with direct contact, clear team structure "Our team will handle it" with no specifics
Organic and paid capability Both done in-house, can show examples of each Only does one, or outsources media buying
Reporting Reports on leads, cost per lead, website sessions Only reports on reach, impressions, and followers
Contract terms Month-to-month or 3-month trial available 12-month lock-in required before proving results
Pricing model Flat monthly fee Percentage of ad spend with no performance link
Industry experience Can show results from a similar business Only shows vanity case studies with no lead data
Paid media knowledge Named Meta Blueprint certified person or demonstrable paid experience Vague claims about "digital expertise"

Questions to ask before you sign anything

Print this list and bring it to your agency meetings.

  1. Who on your team will manage my account, and how many other accounts do they manage?
  2. Will my Instagram pages and Facebook Business Manager be owned by me or by your agency?
  3. Where will my Meta ad account be set up, and whose payment method is on it?
  4. Do you run paid ad campaigns in-house or through a third party?
  5. What does your reporting look like, and what metrics do you report on?
  6. Can you show me the cost per lead you are achieving for a current client in my industry?
  7. What is the minimum contract length, and what happens if I want to leave early?
  8. Who creates the content, an in-house team or a freelance network?
  9. What does the onboarding process look like for the first 30 days?
  10. If my ad account gets flagged or restricted by Meta, who handles it and how fast?

Agencies that answer these questions clearly and specifically are worth talking to further. Agencies that are vague, deflect, or say "it depends" without following up with detail are showing you how they will communicate once you are paying them.

How to measure whether an agency is working

Agree on success metrics before you start, not after three months when you are unhappy.

The numbers that matter for most Dubai businesses are:

  • Number of leads per month from social (DMs, form fills, WhatsApp clicks)
  • Cost per lead from paid campaigns
  • Website sessions from social media
  • Follower growth rate (secondary, but worth tracking)

Reach, impressions, and post engagement are context, not results. They tell you whether your content is being seen, but not whether it is driving enquiries. An agency that leads every monthly report with reach and engagement figures and buries lead data is managing your perception of them, not your actual business outcomes.

Build a simple shared tracker with your agency from day one. You should be able to see at any point what you are spending, how many leads you have generated, and what your cost per lead is. If an agency resists this level of transparency, that is a significant warning sign.

A monthly review call, even thirty minutes, is standard practice at well-run agencies. Use it to go through the numbers together, flag what is not working, and agree on what changes to test the following month. If your agency is not proactively bringing problems to your attention, you are likely not getting the attention your account deserves.

A few honest words about what Markamo does

I am putting this at the end, not the beginning, because the guide stands on its own regardless of whether you end up working with us.

Markamo is a founder-led agency based in Dubai. We manage organic social media and paid ads for SMEs. Organic social starts from AED 3,000 per month, and paid ads management is a separate plan from AED 2,950 per month, both month-to-month with no lock-in. You own all your accounts from day one. We do not outsource media buying.

We are not the right fit for very large brands that need a full-service creative production house. We are a good fit for a business owner who wants a clear view of what their social media is producing, a direct line to whoever is running their account, and results they can actually trace back to revenue.

If that sounds like what you are looking for, see the list of agencies for an honest comparison, or take a look at how we work. If you have a question about your specific situation, get in touch directly and I will give you a straight answer.

The decision itself is not complicated. Ask the ten questions above, check the ownership structure, and pick the agency that answers clearly and shows you real numbers from real clients. That will eliminate most of the risk before you spend a dirham.
